Jan 19 2009 - politics/news (Franny)

On today's show, Franny read an article by Chris Shaw called "Why resist the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver." If you're interested, you can read it here. We heard Target Women (topic: Brooke Shields) and an opinion piece from the Progressive magazine's editor about Haiti. I talked about some other news pieces and finally we heard an interview with Lisa Faye, one of the organizers for the anti-prorogue rally happening this Saturday at 1pm in front of city hall in Saskatoon. Please come out to the rally if you too are upset with the conservative government's decision to prorogue parliament.

Jan 5 – Gym culture (Tracy)

Dec 29 - Year-end news show (Franny)

On today's show, we heard the latest from Sarah Haskin's 'Target Women' with a year-end review. Mexico has now legalized same-sex marriages, so I mentioned that. We heard an interview with Mairin Lowen, one of the organizers for the New Year's Eve Party called Band Swap at Amigos. Local musicians put their names in a hat and have one day to prepare a show with new, surprise band mates. We also heard the top 10 wins for women's health in 2009, from the International Women's Health Coalition. I encouraged all the listeners to go watch "Transgender Basics - Gender Identity Project (GIP)" on youtube. "The video seeks to educate service providers about the basics of gender and identify through the experiences of transgendered individuals." We listened to a clip from it. And finally we heard Dolly Parton and her brothel ladies sing Hard Candy Christmas.
